9 Legitimate Ways to Get Free Internet and Wi-Fi Nearby

Who is not happy to find a low-cost internet alternative to reduce bills?

There are several internet service providers and other options for free services, so let’s get in!

1. Freedompop

If you’ve never heard of Freedompop, you’re definitely missing out!

Freedompop We are a wireless internet service provider based in Los Angeles, California.

They believe that everyone should do their best to access and provide this modern internet.

They offer talk, text, and data plans starting at $0.00 a month, even on mobile devices. Yes, you read it correctly!

There are a variety of options based on the type of service you need and exactly what it is.

You can purchase a phone. Here you will sign up for your device and plan at checkout.

A phone will be sent by mail. Next, you will need to download the messaging application to start the service.

They use a cellular service called VoIP. VoIP is the place that powers calls and texts that you use using data connections.

The device receives signals from network towers with other larger networks.

For example, they are hanging away from the US sprint network for data connections. This technology is all about why they can provide their services.

It also provides SIM cards to GSM customers as long as they use unlocked GSM iOS or Android devices.

With a CDMA device (purchased directly from Freedompop or activated as BYOD), 500MB is offered in a month.

With a GSM SIM card, you can get 200MB for free per month with internet access.

2. Netzero

network It was launched in 1998, but we can tell you that from the fact that it uses a dial-up connection.

Considering dial-ups, you may not think that the internet is fast enough, but just open your mind.

I am showing my age here or remember that you had to sit there and wait for the internet to connect for what appears to be eternal.

If someone calls you, you won’t be able to connect and you’ll be kicked off when the phone rings!

But what this means for internet services is that you need to have a phone line in your home. If you have, you can go.

Netzero, sadly, is not as generous as Freedompop in internet access. If you want to increase your use, you only get 10 hours a month – if you want to increase your use, you can take advantage of the paid plans.

Are you a heavy internet user? This might be the perfect choice for you! Who wants to spend a lot of money on things that are barely using?

3. wifimap

This tool sounds exactly like that – a map of wifi spots!

wifimap It is a downloadable app and provides access to millions of Wi-Fi spots.

Users upload Wi-Fi spots so that others can use them when they are in the area.

It’s a crowdsourcing economy, and only grows when more people use it and share it with their friends.

There are over 100 million free Wi-Fi locations. Provides both the map view and the list view with the password that must be connected.

All you need to do is download the app and search in the area you want to access the internet. It will grow the closest to you and you can choose what you use.

The beauty of it is that if your internet essentials are slow, you can try disconnecting another!

If you’re wondering if this is legal, they’ve been featured in Forbes, Lifehackers, CNN, and the Wall Street Journal.

Make sure you are using a secure network or VPN to protect your data on your public network. I highly recommend using it nordvpn.

4. Wifi free spot

Like wifimap, Wi-Fi Free Spot Another directory listing all local free internet hotspots nearby.

This site lists hotspots by state, but in addition to that, they have a specialist list.

  • Large companies (e.g. Burns & Noble, Starbucks, McDonald’s)
  • airport
  • Hotels, motels, inns, resorts
  • RV Parks and Campgrounds
  • Vacation Rental Properties

5. Instabridge

Instabridge The Internet Service App for Smartphones is an app that provides convenient Wi-Fi passwords and spots on the go.

Originally founded as a way to share your home’s Wi-Fi with friends on Facebook. But it quickly changed and became a larger Wi-Fi sharing company.

You will see the closest location with free Wi-Fi and walking distance and performance.

The app knows which ones work, and automatically connects to what works, avoiding anything that doesn’t.

A cool feature they’ve protected from the earliest stages is that you can list your own home Wi-Fi to share with family and friends.

This saves the problem of having to dig out a Wi-Fi password every time a company asks!

6. Use WiFi at the coffee shop

Thinking their productivity was dead underwater, I saw people panic as their internet went down.

But there is a really, fast, easy, and fairly painless solution.

Most coffee shops are known for providing free internet to patrons. It’s sometimes high-speed internet access and is as useful as what you pay at home!

7. Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP)

You can also get government support for cheaper or free internet. This option has replaced the Emergency Broadband Profits (EBB) program in 2021 (aka Covid Times).

If you live in the US, the government also has an Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) for eligible households.

With this program you earn $30 a month for internet bills. If you live in a high-cost area, you can earn $75 a month.

This means you can get internet services ranging from $0 to $20 for $0 to $20 to create a low-cost internet.

For ACPs, you must have at least one person in your home that is eligible for a federal assistance program, such as the National School Lunch Program, or eligible to receive supplemental security income.

Someone in your home must qualify:

  • Lifeline Program
  • For Pell Grant (current grade)
  • Supplementary Security Income (SSI)
  • Supplementary Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) or WIC Support
  • National School Lunch Program (NSLP) or School Breakfast Program (SBP)
  • Temporary Support for Poor Families (TANF)
  • Federal Public Housing Support (FPHA)

Therefore, if your child is eligible for the National School Lunch Program, you can apply for this free internet program even if it is not used individually in a federal government assistance program.

However, it counts at one service discount per month, so even if you are eligible for the above program, you will only get one discount per home.

However, if you or someone else is eligible in your household, some internet providers will also offer additional internet savings in addition to government assistance.

For example, if you already have SNAP or Supplementary Security Income (SSI), you AT&T Access Program.

They and other internet service providers have expanded their reach to more people under the federal poverty guidelines.

AT&T is a participating provider and you can get an additional $5-10 from your bill, allowing you to earn lower cost internet with additional discounts.

8. Ask your neighbor

This depends on your relationship with your neighbor, but it doesn’t have to be a nasty exchange!

Many low-income families trade services to split costs or get things for the home. Why not negotiate for free internet access?

You can split the costs and make them low for both. You can also exchange and ask if you have a neighbor’s Wi-Fi password.

Never forget simple things like helping out errands, helping out children, or caring for the lawn.

I recently saw an episode of Extreme Cheap Skate. So the man asked his neighbor this, but unfortunately they said no.

I think they were a bit shocked by it, so it’s worth considering how you ask questions.

Not only will you seek free internet use, but you’ll probably be much better offering cost sharing!

9. Use your mobile phone as a hotspot

Many people have phones and pay enough for them anyway, so why not use that phone plan?

Instead of paying for your internet provider, you simply use mobile internet.

Using your mobile phone as a hotspot is basically used as a mobile router. You can turn on the Hotspot feature and use it to connect to other devices nearby.

This will use the data available on your mobile phone.

The internet in their home wasn’t working so I saw someone using this the other day, but they had to go online for work.

However, low-income families should be careful about using their data if they want everything to stay within their budget. Don’t look up your data allowance or it’s not free!

Bonus – Create your own free internet device

Have you ever wondered whether it is possible to pick up free Wi-Fi signals with your own DIY free internet device?
