Tesla (TSLA) is set to launch its long-awaited Robotaxi in Austin on June 12th, showing the technology that long-standing CEO Elon Musk has promised. Ultimately, Robotakshi appears ready to roll, but Musk’s recent departure from Government Efficiency (DOGE) will make his debut in a sudden, very public feud with President Donald Trump.
For a long time, Musk has been promising autonomous Tesla vehicles. Now, hand-selected groups will be able to see for themselves vehicles that may be operating in the Texas capital.
But the Robotaki event is being covered by mask spats with President Trump after Tesla CEO criticized Trump’s budget bill that cuts credits for electric vehicles. Trump is threatening retaliation, including cutting government contracts with Muskheld companies. EV makers stocks are down more than 20% per year, while the S&P 500 has earned 2% in that time frame.
Tesla’s Robotaxi faces critical competition in autonomous vehicle racing
Tesla’s Robotaxi launch, which the company calls it more modestly “pilot,” is a loyal part of the musk, but soon points to the future of thousands of Tesla Robotaxis, but starts small. In an interview with CNBC in late May, Musk said that its fleet starts with just 10 vehicles, but if results in Austin are favorable, it could expand to thousands and move to other cities.
Despite the fanfare, the launch of Tesla’s invitation-only Robotaxi reports that it is in a controlled environment. Events occur on public roads, but “teleoperators” will always have control over the vehicle in case the vehicle is in a tough place.
The 10 semi-car fleet with “training wheels” is not as flashy as the “Tesla Robotakshi debut.” But musk teeth It appears after years of promise.
Of course, Tesla is not the only one looking to the Robotaxi Awards, but it has a heeled competitor flocking to the Texas capital and touching on its “lighter” regulations.
Austin is already a hotbed for self-driving car (AV) activities, with Alphabet’s Waymo debuting Robotaxis in March. Amazon’s Zoox, Volkswagen-owned ADMT, and startup Avride, all have some AV experiments there as well. Uber, who works at Waymo Cars, says his clients have opted for Robotaxis over human-driven cars, and now there are around 100 cars.
However, Tesla uses a different approach than other rivals such as Waymo. Musk’s Company employs cameras as the main input for driverless vehicles, while Waymo uses lidar and radar. Tesla’s approach is inexpensive, so if the company can get the car right, it will be cost-effective and faster to scale the solution. But is that just another big musk prediction?
Musk makes big predictions for 2026: Millions of Tesla AVS on the road
About the company’s first quarter revenue call in April – A quarter of deliveries plunged to multi-year lows – The mask has returned to classic form: bold predictions that will focus investors firmly on a bright future, while the present moment looks much dim. He said:
Acidity tests are sure you can sleep in your car and wake up at your destination, and will be available in many cities in the US by the end of this year. We expect millions of Teslas to operate autonomously (fully autonomously) by the second half of next year.
– Elon Musk
These are the kinds of claims that masks have basically made in one form or another for ten years. Just like before, investors are asked to believe, like Charlie Brown, who is trying to kick the football as Lucy holds.
Helping Musk’s millions of autonomous Tesla forecasts in 18 months are the fact that the company’s newly improved Model Y can download software updates and drive completely autonomously. The almost-appearing self-driving promises, especially in Europe, may help to boost the sales of the Model Y. The figures for 2025 are becoming more prominent Due to the aging design of the previous incarnation and the political activities of Musk.

of course, Musk is well encouraged by his stock compensation To maintain these promises, he did an incredible job of keeping investors focused on a bigger, brighter future that is always on the horizon in “a year or two.” And that’s one reason – perhaps important – why the mask is so valuable to Tesla and its shareholders. In the past, his promises have increased stock prices..
But if Musk is once again over-over in what is called Robotaxis’ Austin’s debut, and there are those immature, investors shouldn’t be surprised for a minute.
