How to start a shopping ban and stick to it!

Whether you’re attracted to shiny shoes, a gorgeous new Chanel wallet or you can’t stop buying clothes, it may be time to consider a ban on shopping. Make constant shopping, whether you or others are harmful to your finances. But I understand that I have a hard time trying to stop a habit like shopping. The good news is that you can go shopping ban and succeed and even make it fun!

No shopping

I have noticed that sometimes I fall into a pattern of overexpense when I get stressed or distracted. Once this happens, we find that implementing a shopping ban is the best way to reset.

By reducing unnecessary purchases over a set period, you can regain control of your finances, refocus your savings goals, and return to a more mindful approach to spending. It’s my go-to strategy to get myself involved and adhere to financial health. I share some tips that helped me, but first let’s discuss what a shopping ban is actually!

A no-shopping period is the period in which you choose not to buy specific things that are “need” rather than “needs” and you choose to spend time on Van Island.

Do not shop for clothes, accessories, jewelry, shoes, etc. Decide in advance what you won’t buy. Some people want to cut out unwanted shopping, while others tend to focus on specific items, such as not buying handbags or designer shoes.

You can fully customize your shopping ban based on what you want to make a regular purchase and buy, or what you think will most benefit you. There are many “rules” there, but the bottom line is:

No online shopping

Seriously, how easy is online shopping? It’s fun and easy to add items to your cart and buy without much thought, especially if you’re using a credit card. If you shop online frequently, you may already have card information stored on the site, which will allow you to make your purchase even faster. If you like to shop from your mobile phone and keep ordering things all the time, choosing to ban online shopping might be a good idea.

To prohibit online shopping, delete your card information from frequently-shop websites. Consider using the shopping app from your phone to go online only to work or email checks. It helps you not to buy extras.

Store shopping prohibited

Maybe you’re a more direct shopper. I browse the store after work and on weekends and always look for deals. A shop ban may be of great help. Set a time slot before avoiding stores.

Do your best not to go to the mall or shopping centre. It is acceptable to go shopping for essentials you have already decided on. To help yourself, try changing your driving or walking routes to avoid passing through with an attractive window display.

When you start a shopping ban, you are not going to buy anything. The items you own are not you. That’s by no means clearer than when you take part in a shopping ban.

And like that, the pressure to maintain it was gone. It may feel uncomfortable at first, but after a while, it may be very free to not have to buy so much to become fashionable.

This is clearly a great side effect of not shopping. The money is no longer spent, so you can save what’s important to you. What big savings goals have you put off, or did you think it was impossible? With your extra money, you can change your financial future for the better.

Without all the extra money going out the door for a retail store, your budget can breathe more easily. Once you’ve finished your shopping ban, you can spend less. Your budget will become more controllable and you may learn a lot about money.

Determine the rules

  • There is no shopping for clothes, shoes or wallets.
  • Instead of shopping, save $200 a month.
  • You can buy groceries and essential skincare products, but nothing is unnecessary like new makeup.
  • There are no non-essential purchases for two months from a specific date.

There are many other rules you can come up with, but here is our advice. Stick to just a few rules so you don’t overly complicated it. And make sure the rules work for you and help you achieve your own goals.

Please select a time frame

This is the tricky part. It’s easy to start with a long time, but this may not work. Instead, choose something reasonable and know that you can add time whenever you want.

A great example of time is a month or two. There may be three if you feel ambitious or have a significant savings goal. Above all, know your start and end dates and don’t last long enough so long you might slip.

Avoid temptation

Once I start banning my shopping, I want to make it easier for me to succeed. Do this by avoiding temptation and finding ways to actively stick to your goals. As soon as you get the money, you’ll transfer your savings to your retirement and investment account. That way, there’s no way to spend it.

Don’t bring cash and clean up your credit card while you’re out. Use the shopping app from your mobile phone or device. If you do that, you won’t be able to see “Great Deals”.

Additionally, deleting saved payment information from your favorite shopping sites can make impulse purchases even more difficult. This additional inconvenient group will be forced to think more about your purchase, reducing the chances of breaking the ban.

Remove the app from your phone, log out of Facebook and do your best to avoid this type of media for a while. If you’re being seduced to keep up with friends and family through social media, traditional phone calls and visits are even better.

2. Create a list when shopping for essentials

Obviously, you cannot cut your shopping completely, except when the ban is relatively short. You still need essentials like food. Consider making a list before you leave the house. Before you shop, know what you need to buy and what you should avoid.

If you see something while shopping and think you can’t live without it, take a look at your list. Please include all required items in the list. But don’t forget to question whether you really need it before adding it, enter the store, go beyond the list, and leave just after purchasing those items.

3. Remember that shopping is not necessary
